I own and operate Big Valley Seed Company. As a small business owner, I know what it’s like to deal with unfair government rules that make you want to pull your hair out… believe me. It’s my goal to make sure any person who wants a job can find one. The way to do that? Get rid of the unfair regulations that make it so difficult to start a new business, and get rid of the red tape and endless paperwork that makes it hard to hire new people for good-paying jobs. Let’s make California “jobs-friendly” again!
Many schools in the North State have been open and doing an excellent job providing in-person instruction. Thanks to the dedication of our local school administrators and teachers, our schools have been safely and successfully providing in-person instruction. These schools should serve as a blueprint model for the rest of the state, and thanks to recent amendments to AB 86, they will now have the funding they need to mitigate learning loss and provide much-needed mental health support for our students.
It broke my heart to see our communities devastated by largely preventable fires last year. We need to learn from this terrible experience and work together to make sure this never happens again. The truth is many fire prevention measures were neglected: we need more clearing out of overgrowth, real fire breaks around residences and businesses, and ensure power lines are maintained correctly. We must make sure that the victims of the fires are given all the help they need to recover and get their lives back on track, and we must hold those who cause the fires accountable for the lost lives and property damage.
Crime is increasing, and that part of the problem is an increasingly large homeless population. Let me be very clear: as your Assemblywoman I will vote to get rid of the laws which let dangerous felons out of jail early, and which have decreased penalties for drug and property crime. At the same time, we need to have some compassion for our fellow Californians. We need to give local government the resources they need to make sure no family or child or veteran ever has to sleep on the street and to require that the mentally ill or drug-addicted get treatment so they can take care of themselves again.
It’s as simple as this: if our farms don’t have enough water we can’t grow food. Food grows where water flows, as the old saying goes. Instead of sending billions of gallons of fresh water to the ocean every year, we need to use the funds we already have to increase above ground water storage here in the North State. We have all the water we need here… we just need to do the common sense things to capture it and put it to good use.
As a former school board president and mother of three kids in the public school system, I have a passion for improving classroom results. The truth is, our education system as a whole is failing too many children. The first step is making sure kids in rural areas have the same access to the internet, and that rural classrooms are funded the same as urban ones. I support making sure teachers and classrooms have every dollar they need to get the job done but also support holding these teachers and schools accountable for making sure that when a student graduates, they have the tools and knowledge they need to go to college or get a good-paying job. I strongly support school choice and giving parents more of a voice in our local schools.
